MY ARTIST STATEMENT
The one thing about art that always amazes me is the way it touches people and the healing power that it holds. I have experienced it so many times and saw it happened to others. That’s why every brushstroke is observed and carefully considered before it touches the canvas so that nothing of that will be lost. My intention as an artist is to let my painting radiate a message and touch the viewer in a special way. Afterall, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I love to paint what I feel passionate about, and I’m passionate about all things created. I feel an infinity with my Creator when the brush in my hand builds up images with the paint, brush stroke by brush stroke.
I specialize in portraits both people and animals, but I often paint compositions where I use all kinds of objects to express emotions, feeling or to describe a situation. This includes landscapes, still lives flower compositions and whatever is needed to express myself. It is very important to me that the viewer will be drawn into what I paint and be touched in some way emotionally. I always try to convey a special message to those that look upon it.
Building the composition step by step is important and I would do initial drawings until I’m happy with the composition. Underpainting or blocking in is the next step and I would then lay my colours in over that. Glazing gives so much depth and illumination to paint and I sometimes glaze some parts, or all off a painting. Glazing is a timely proses and not always practical for a commissioned portrait unless a person is not in a hurry.
I paint mostly from photos and love to get to know my subject by drawing and looking intently. I am a realistic painter and are proud of my work. Working with oil gives me great satisfaction and I love the Suttle, amazing blending power of oils and often use my fingers to help me get the desired effect. Colours are very important to me, and I would painstakingly experiment with colour to get the best out of them but sometimes do like to dramatize and surprise with different colours. I prefer oils but love drawing and using different medium like Charcoal, pencils, pen, and ink washes as well as pastels.
My live experiences are strongly influence by what I think and feel and wants to find expression in my compositions and brush strokes. At this stage of my life I feel a freedom of expression and are working towards a series of paintings that I like to call my signature series and would aim to have an exhibition in 2023
